Last weekend a very cute 4 year old little boy asked me when Lydia will get big. I replied that in 2 weeks she will be 1 year old. He said, "So she's zero?"
Yes, next weekend is Lydia's 1st birthday! Today we celebrated her life with a fun Carousel Party! We invited just a handful of Lydia's "friends" (or those whom we identified to be her friends down the road when she'll do more than just stare at them curiously and touch them with her little pointer finger). Lydia was such a good girl at her party and I'll say from the depths of my heart that it was all worth it! Every list in preparation, every errand, the overpriced (and disappointing) cake and waking up early today to back up her morning nap so she'd be ready for the party... It was a special day. First and foremost because we had our families there (except Mike and Katie who are stationed in Korea right now! You were missed!) and secondly, because we have the greatest friends anyone could pray for, and finally...because we're SO proud of our sweet Lydia. She is an amazing blessing and just looking at her makes my heart smile. She deserves a party every day! So, here are a handful of pictures from the day. I'll add more very soon. (It's been a long day!)

Lydia's Carousel
So for her first ride she sat on the bench to check things out. For her next ride she graduated herself up to the horses! (2 videos below.)
She didn't go crazy with the cake, despite our encouragement. I stuck her hand right into it twice and she looked kind of icked out by it. She didn't seem to dislike the taste, but didn't dive in for more, either. She just sort of looked at us like, "What are we doing exactly? Please explain." It took her no time at all to smear it all over her clothes, however. When we offered her a bottle instead she snatched that thing up like it was an old familiar friend! For the next 5-10 minutes it was as if there was no party around her at all... just her and her happy bottle.
We rolled out a pink "red carpet" from the Carousel to the party tables. (That's super cute Gracie taking her turn... And there's Oliver to the left filming her, Pararatzi-style.)

The party was SO much fun!! Thanks for inviting us:)
Looks like you had a great time! I love how proud (and confused) Lydia looks riding the carousel. She's too cute in her hat and t-shirt. She's going to have to pass the word to Harper that birthday hats aren't so bad. ;)
