Today was All Saints Day at Lydia’s school. In lieu of Halloween and ghosts and witches and all that yucky stuff, the kids were encouraged to dress up like their heroes (or animals or anything else sweet). At the end of the school day, they had the All Saints Parade, and each of the classrooms paraded out into the courtyard, while the parents (or grandparents in Lydia’s case) snapped pictures and ooh-ed and ahh-ed.

Lydia was an angel. I know what you’re thinking… How perfectly fitting for her because she truly IS a little angel! (Says her biased Mommy, of course.)

Her costume was very simple (and affordable!) and she looked precious. As you know, she doesn’t sit still long enough for us to get great pictures, but lucky for us… her sweet teacher offered to keep our camera all day to snap some of Lydia during the parade. (Oliver and I were both tied up at work because we’re going to be out of town next week. Grammy and Poppy attended the parade for us, and Lydia was happy to see them there.) Not only did her teacher bring the camera to the parade, but she also took pictures throughout the day! We’re so happy she did that, because it gave us a glimpse into Lydia’s school day. So, here’s a day in the life of Lydia at school… Enjoy!

This one is actually before school… I had to bribe her with a video and a snack in order to get the pigtails and costume accomplished. Then, we were off to school!

On the way to school… She likes to borrow my sunglasses when the sun is in her eyes.

The first thing they do each day is go to Chapel. They say Good Morning to God by looking up at the ceiling, waving and saying “Hi God!” Today there was a little angel attending Chapel!

Then they went to Music class. (Looks like only a few of the kids wore their costumes all day. For those who had more complicated or cumbersome costumes, they changed into it later, just before the parade.)

In addition to singing and learning hand motions in Music class, they also do fun things like this obstacle course!

Her teacher took some great videos of Music class as well, but they’re long videos and will take an ETERNITY to upload to the blog. But they are very cute and we’ll enjoy having them!

The kids also have their daily lessons. There’s a daily bible lesson, a letter of the week, a shape, a color, the calendar, the weather, centers and Art time. (She brought home a lot of artwork today – lots of super cute stuff. It amazes me what they’re able to accomplish in just 2 days per week!)

And the ever-important nap time… Here she is on her nap mat, snoring away. It’s mind-boggling to me they these kids will fall asleep next to one another like this. I guess they’re all tuckered out by this time of the day!

And then the kids were woken up to get ready for the All Saints Parade. Doesn’t Lydia look THRILLED to be on her way to the parade? I love the way the little boy next to her is looking at her…

So…after all of Lydia’s sad little tears and whining, she ended up being paraded in the arms of her teacher. She was content then. Grammy and Poppy said that Lydia wasn’t the only kid who was a unsure of what was going on and what to do (but I wonder if she may have been the only one with tears and a boogery nose). I admire the teachers for endeavoring to organize such young kids for something like this. They had to get all of them dressed in their costumes and then into line for the parade... I’m impressed!

Here’s a video of Lydia walking to Chapel. It was taken side-ways, and there’s no way for me to rotate it. So although I know it’s awkward to watch it this way, I wanted to post it anyway for Lydia’s Omi and Opa, who attend this church and might enjoy seeing the Reverend greet Lydia at the door. She gave him a high five.

I’ve been meaning to tell you that last Saturday Lydia and her Daddy went back to the pet store for another fish! It was her Daddy’s idea… I wasn’t going to rush right out to get another. This time they came home with a Beta fish. We haven’t taken any pictures yet, but we will post some soon! Wish us luck keeping this one alive!

Today Mommy and Lydia went to the park to watch Daddy play flag football!  Daddy scored 3 touchdowns in the first game!  In the second game, well…we’re not sure because SOMEbody was feeling very adventurous and we ended up waaaaaaay down the field away from all of the action!  (And SOMEbody didn’t want to obey when Mommy said it was time to go back to the other side of the field.)  It was a beautiful day outside (although a little warm for late October!) and we had fun.

Poor little Lydia caught a stomach bug over the weekend! It only lasted about 12 hours, but those 12 hours were not fun! She woke up early Sunday morning and threw up... and proceeded to do so again about every 30 minutes or so for a couple of hours. Her tummy was completely empty, but that didn't stop the yucks from coming anyway. She never cried, but was sad and just wanted to snuggle and be loved on, which we were happy to do for her! She fell asleep for about an hour on our bed that morning, and later had another good 3 hour nap in her bed. In between, we read books and watched a lot of videos. It was a video marathon day...she was so lethargic and didn't want to play. The videos helped her rest, which was good, and we just stayed close to her and loved on her all day. Thankfully, by Sunday evening following her good nap, she was able to keep small doses of Pedialyte down, and her energy went WAY up! She was back to her old self with no more yucks! The next day, she was tired and her appetite was low, but otherwise she was better. There's nothing sadder than when your little one is sick and feels bad, is there?

And what do you think happened next? Mommy caught it! Yes, it hit Tuesday and I felt LOUSY. Grammy had Lydia at her house on Monday, and by Wednesday...it hit her too. So sad! But everyone is better now, and Daddy managed to avoid it altogether. We'll take some HAPPY face pictures soon, since these are sad little pics today! Speaking of pictures, Lydia had her very first school picture day this week. We haven't received the proofs yet... We're not holding our breaths that she actually posed and smiled. We'll see!

R.I.P. "Fish"

Thankfully, Lydia did not witness his demise... It happened while none of us were home. She did, however, find him floating in his bowl before we had a chance to move it from the table. Oops. So, what did we tell her the fish was doing? Taking a nap, of course! (Video, below.) She totally bought it, and just smiled and watched him for a minute. (So sad!)

Today we went to a pumpkin patch up the street from our house. This is Lydia's 3rd year to visit this pumpkin patch. It's our tradition now. Last weekend we went to another one in Grapevine with her cousin Warner and Aunt Katie and Uncle Mike. We didn't realize that our camera battery was about to die, so we didn't come away with any pictures from that day. But today, Daddy snapped and snapped and snapped the camera, trying to get our 2010 pumpkin photo. She's not the best model... She won't stand still for anything, and certainly won't smile on demand. We have to accept that at this age, candid shots are all we're going to get! This photo is the sweetest one.

We met some friends there (a co-worker of mine, his wife and their 2 boys. They live very close to us. It was fun to meet them there, although the kids didn't really interact much. There was too much to see and do, to stop and make a new friend!

Throwing hay is so much fun! She did this for about 10 minutes.

Time to go home... We purchased 1 large pumpkin, 1 medium pumpkin, and 2 little ones (a Lydia-sized one, and a Molly-sized one.)
