About a month ago I won tickets to the show on the radio. It was the first time I have ever won anything on the radio, and I was so happy it was something for Lydia! I was driving to work one morning, listening to KLTY. I heard the Sesame Street theme music begin, and they said that the 10th caller could win tickets to go see "Sesame Street Live-123 Imagine with Elmo". All you had to do was be the right caller and then tell them how wonderful your child is. Easy! So I started dialing. Busy signal. Busy signal. Busy signal. I was sitting in traffic on the tollway, so I just continued to dial and then hang up to try again. I figured by now they probably had their winner, but I decided to dial another time anyway. It started ringing! It rang and rang and rang and rang, and I considered hanging up. Then...Frank Reed answers and says "Hi! Thanks for listening to KLTY-the family friendly morning show- Tell us about your little one!" I couldn't believe it! So I rambled something about how precious and sweet Lydia is and that she has a gentle and sweet little spirit and she's such a blessing... He asked how old she is, and I said almost 2 and then he said "Congratulations - you are going to see Sesame Street Live!!" It was such a fun experience to be on the radio! So then, I had to find time to drive to the radio station in Irving to pick up the tickets. Once I finally made it out there, I discovered that what they gave me were vouchers for tickets, and I had to get the tickets at the box office at Nokia - in Grand Prairie! So I found time to drive out there one day. It was important to me to give Lydia this experience, no matter how many hoops I had to jump through! Realizing she's pretty young, so she could either love it, or be super squirmy, or completely melt down...but I decided that if she had even just 5 minutes of fun watching a life-sized Elmo, then it was worth it.
We invited Grammy and Omi to join Oliver, Lydia and I for the show. Basically Lydia's crew. 4 adults to 1 child - a perfect ratio for any possible meltdowns.
Omi bought a souvenir t-shirt during intermission (Lydia is modeling it below with Elmo)
All in all, she did GREAT. We came prepared with her snacks and milk, so between that and her occasional interest in the show, it was fine. She was definitely super squirmy, but never freaked out or cried.

I was really grateful we made it to the event, because we were actually in recovery mode from coughs and colds and congestion last week. Lydia caught a cold last week and it progressively elevated to coughing and congestion. No fever that we were aware of, and for the most part she acted like her normal self. Then, Mommy caught it, and that may be why Lydia is still not quite 100% yet. I probably set her back. Daddy isn't feeling tip-top, but so far he's still doing pretty well. Deep congestion and coughing is no fun, I gotta tell ya. It just wears you out. And unfortunately at Lydia's age, cough medicines and cold remedies aren't recommended. So, we had her humidifier going during her naps and throughout the night. And I tried to use the nasal aspirator on her as much as she'd let me. That thing really works! You can suck a whole lot of stuff out of her nose! When she'll let me, of course. I can usually sneak up on her for one good suck from one nostrel, but getting to the second nostrel is doubtful. She's really sweet about, but she'll hold her hand over her nose to block my access, and will look at me like, "Are you serious? do you really think I'm going to let you do that a second time?"
Anyway, we were extra tired this week, but made it through work and everything we needed to do. Grammy and Poppy weren't feeling well either, so I stayed home with Lydia on Monday, and then Omi took Lydia the rest of the week so Grammy could get better and I could be at work. Everyone is on the mend now, I think! And the timing was perfect - just in time for...the Sesame Street event!
