Today Lydia went somewhere for the very first time. A place that most kids love. A place that is an American staple. A place that is a right of passage when you're a kid. Where? McDonalds! Yes, believe it or not, before today Lydia had never been to a fast food restaurant. Crazy, huh? She's been a picky eater this year, and we usually get our playground fix outside, so the whole McDonalds Happy Meal playland experience has just never happened. Her birthday is coming up, however, and I've decided this might be a perfect place for an easy party. So...today we went out to play at McDonalds...and she had a great time! It actually turned out to be a really sweet outing for Mommy and Lydia, minus the new baby. Just the 2 of us! We had a lot of fun. She loved the indoor playland, and the kids she met while she was there. It's a unique McDonalds, with a pirate ship theme...very cute kid's area. Now, I mentioned that Lydia is a picky eater, but lately she's been more open-minded and she's a total sponge, learning so many new things and wow-ing us daily. So, I decided to buy her very first order of McDonald's fries and see if she would try them. I definitely don't need Lydia to like unhealthy fast food...but I want her to at least experience what other kids do, and not be so sheltered that she doesn't know what a McDonald's french fry is! Lydia wanted us to sit at the tall table for 2, and surprisingly...she didn't question the fries at all, but tried them right away. Well, she sucked on them one at a time and then set it down to get a new one. She never actually ate one, but enjoyed testing them out. And if you know how picky Lydia has been about food this last 6 months or so...that's a big deal!
